The Duke · A little care, a lovely glow
How to enjoy The Duke.
A quiet moment, your favourite fragrance and the soft glow of a candle.
With a few simple habits, you can keep that moment beautiful — from the first flame to the final burn.
Before the glow
Remove the dust cover and all packaging. Trim the wick of the cold candle to approximately 5 mm. Remove any loose wick fragments or debris from the wax.
A wick trimmer makes this easy, even when the candle has burned deeper into the glass. Does your candle have several wicks? Trim them all.
A beautiful first burn
Choose a spot away from draughts, with plenty of clear space above and around the flame.
Allow the top layer of wax enough time to melt as evenly as possible. Never burn for longer than 4 hours, even if a small rim of wax remains. With a multi-wick candle, light all wicks together.
Enjoy the moment
Always remain nearby while the candle is burning. Do not touch the warm glass or move the candle while the wax is liquid.
If the flame becomes unusually high, flickers strongly or produces persistent smoke or soot, extinguish the candle. Allow it to cool completely and check the wick and its position before relighting.
A gentle goodbye
Extinguish the flame carefully, preferably with a candle snuffer. Never use water and do not use the dust cover to extinguish the flame.
Allow the candle to cool completely and the wax to harden before the next burn. Replace the dust cover only once everything is cold. Store the candle upright, dry and out of direct sunlight.
A beautiful ritual. Always safely.
Good habits to keep.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended. Extinguish it before leaving the room or going to sleep.
- Keep the candle out of reach of children and pets, and well away from curtains, books, flowers and other flammable materials.
- Place burning candles at least 10 cm apart and provide ventilation without draughts.
- Never allow the candle to burn completely dry.
Good to know
A little question?
Wax remains around the edge. Is that normal?
A thin rim may melt away during later burns. Do not extend the burn beyond the maximum time to force this.
There is a black bead on the wick.
This may be a carbon build-up. Allow the candle to cool completely, trim the wick back to approximately 5 mm and remove the trimmed fragment from the wax.
The wax is no longer completely smooth after cooling.
Plant-based wax may look slightly uneven or crystallised after a burn. This appearance alone does not mean anything is wrong. Continue to watch for a calm flame and follow the safety instructions.
Can I reuse the glass afterwards?
Allow the glass to cool completely. Carefully remove wax residue without sharp objects, boiling water or sudden temperature changes. Do not pour wax down the sink. A clean, undamaged glass can be used for small decorative objects, for example — not for food or drink, and not as a new candle without suitable materials and burn testing.
Hand-poured, with care.
We are happy to help.
